Millions of workers in the United States use respirators in the performance of their jobs every day. They are one of the most common types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and one of the most vital to safety and health. Because all workers have the right to a safe working environment, OSHA mandates that respirators be used where there is risk of respiratory hazards and that workplaces using respirators implement training on their use. That's where we come in.
CTS already provides a general overview training course covering Personal Protective Equipment. Now, we are introducing a new training program specifically over respiratory protection that is appropriate for new employees as well as recurrent training. PPE - Respiratory Protection is designed to meet OSHA requirements for respirator training and to provide an effective overview on their proper use, the different types of respirators, care and maintenance, and the risks involved.
PPE - Respiratory Protection includes a seven-module tutorial and five lessons, with an exam at the end. The tutorial modules cover:
- Why Use Respirators?
- Types of Respirators
- Proper Use of Respirators
- Fit Testing and Inspection
- Maintenance and Storage
- Improper Use, Limitations, and Hazards
- Respirator Use in Emergencies
The five lessons offer further details and some scenario-based questions over the information covered in the tutorial, and are followed by a comprehensive exam. The entire program meets both OSHA training requirements and those laid out in 29 CFR 1910.134(c) for employee respirator general training and is relevant for a wide variety of work environments, including industrial, cleaning, medical, and maintenance.
The new PPE - Respiratory Protection course will be included in our Maintenance/Safety training package. It may be purchased as part of a complete training package, or by itself, depending on your training needs.
